Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Primary Education)
Programme Structure
This qualification consists of six compulsory courses totalling 120 credits. The programme has four 15-credit courses and two 30-credit courses. You need to complete all courses in the list below to graduate with this qualification. The programme works in blocks of 16 teaching weeks. A full-time workload for a block is three courses (60 credits). Part-time is a minimum of one course (15 credits).
Full-time applications should select:
- EDU728 Te Tiriti o Waitangi in Education
- EDU729 Primary Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment 1
- EDU730 Inclusive Education in Action: Practicum 1
Part-time applications should select one, or both of these courses:
- EDU728 Te Tiriti o Waitangi in Education
- EDU729 Primary Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment 1
Important information for practicum enrolments
Please note that enrolments in practicum courses (EDU730 and EDU732) in this programme close 4 to 9 weeks before the course opens. For specific dates, please select the course dates below.
Extra requirements for first-time applicants

Applicants need to meet the deadline dates above to successfully enrol in the courses. Applications that do not meet the deadline will be considered for the next intake.
*Note that the pop-up box when selecting individual courses applies only to students who are reenrolling, not new applicants.
If you have a qualification that has been awarded in any country other than New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, or the United States, you will need to have an International Qualification Assessment completed by NZQA (see here for more information about this). We also require all identity documents and qualification documents to be verified copies. For information on how to get copies verified please see here.
