Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold a relevant trades qualification at Level 5, 6 or 7 on the NZQCF, or a recognised equivalent; or applicants who hold a relevant trades qualification at Level 4 may apply for the alternative entry pathway.  All Level 4 applicants applying for the alternative entry pathway can indicate this on the pre-enrolment check (referred to below) and will need to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate equivalency to Level 5 outcomes or higher, on the NZQCF, in an area that is relevant to teaching technology subjects; as well as undertake and pass an academic literacy reading and writing assessment.

In addition, all applicants must be able to demonstrate at least 3 years of work experience over the last 10 years, that is relevant to teaching technology subjects.

Workforce restrictions for children's workforce

If you have a criminal conviction and want to study towards a qualification that will lead to a job in the state funded sector (including teaching or providing youth services) working directly with children, you need to check whether your conviction could prevent you from working in some roles in your chosen field.

This is due to the Children's Act 2014. This prevents state sector agencies and government-funded service providers from hiring people with convictions for specified offences to work with children in some roles.
