Update for re-enrolling learners

If you were already enrolled in Version 1 of this programme up to and including 9 July 2024 and are currently enrolled in your final course(s) in this version of the programme, once you successfully complete all of the course requirements you will graduate with Version 1 of this programme.

Architectural Technology V2

If you still have courses to enrol in to complete this qualification, you will be transitioned over to Version 2,  the new version of this programme as the courses become available.

Please note that, unless there are exceptional circumstances, all courses in this programme should be successfully completed within 6 years from your first enrolment.

If you are transitioning to Version 2, you will receive full credit for the study you have completed in Version 1.

If you have not yet requested a Transition Study Plan please fill out the form on our website and we will be in touch with a study plan. This will indicate the amount of credit you will be awarded and which Version 2 courses you need to complete.

As an architectural technician you will:

  • interpret legislation such as the building and resource management acts
  • apply legislation to construction drawings. 
  • understand the stages of a construction project, and the documentation required for each.

You will be able to work under the supervision of an experienced architectural technician, designer or architect, on a variety of construction projects.

 

What you will learn

When you achieve this qualification you will be able to:

  • establish the clients’ requirements
  • develop and communicate a concept and building design
  • prepare approval documentation for a building project following the clients’ brief
  • evaluate the performance of and select materials and finishes used in the building process
  • prepare, organise and present architectural working drawings for small and medium buildings. This will be in accordance with the statutory and regulatory environment
  • understand the roles, documentation and administrative requirements of the construction industry, apply this knowledge and assist senior personnel through the tender process.
