Walking across the graduation stage was a proud moment for Lucia Mataia, as she received her Bachelor of Arts (Library and Information Studies) from Open Polytechnic.
With her qualification in hand, Lucia has been able to advance her career and is now working as the community library manager at Leys Institute Library.
‘My studies have helped me in my job. I now see the world differently and understand technology and information changes.’
Lucia is proud of her Pasifika culture and aims to help encourage others to follow their dreams.
I think Open Polytechnic allows Pasifika people to work in their own time, because family/whānau/aiga is very important to them, and they can fit their studies around all the things that they do, around their community or church.
