This professional experience placement supports the development of knowledge, skills, and dispositions to work in early learning services in Aotearoa New Zealand and progresses towards meeting Our Code Our Standards in a supported environment.
In this online course, the focus will be on developing the capacity, confidence, and dispositions of young tamariki to use language in multiple forms for a range of purposes in the years prior to school and as they transition into formal schooling. The course will examine recent theory, research and the concepts that promote equitable outcomes for all tamariki that are foundational to literacy learning and teaching in the early years.
This online course examines the basis of te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership and its historical and educational significance for kaiako in early learning services and schools. Ākonga will have opportunities to engage with Mātauranga Māori, and also learn te reo Māori me ōna tikanga for use in their educational setting and experience a noho marae.
This online course introduces ākonga to the role research and inquiry play in learning and teaching. Ākonga will come to understand the importance of evidenced based decision making when evaluating and adapting their practice. Research and inquiry data gathering methods are introduced to support evidence-based reflection including a consideration of Māori and Pacific approaches. Ākonga will practise accessing resources, research studies and evidence relevant to their teaching context.
