This fully online programme will prepare you for a career as a beginner florist working in floristry retail outlets. With further work experience and study, you could move into roles such as intermediate florists in floristry retail outlets.

What you will learn

When you complete this online qualification you will be able to:

  • Prepare simple floristry items to meet customer specifications, and maintain quality of items to maximise their impact
  • Carry out routine storage, care, and display of floristry stock and merchandise
  • Communicate with floristry team members and customers to ensure the provision of appropriate customer service
  • Maintain personal safety in a floristry workroom environment.

It was actually brilliant. The course tutor did a really great job with demonstrating the different techniques on the step-by-step course videos, which was so informative. I’m a visual learner and I loved the fact you can pause and go over parts of the video again if you need to. The course is made up of three, 20 weeks blocks giving you plenty of time to complete the course which is really good for people working full-time. I really appreciated that.

Practicum

As part of FLO203 Introduction to Retail Floristry you need to do 40 hours of work experience. This can be in a volunteer or paid position, but must be in an approved workplace. Approval of the workplace will be undertaken by the Open Polytechnic on the recommendation of the New Zealand Professional Florists Incorporated (NZPF).

Display techniques will also be covered with a range of display type exercises that can be completed on job or off job.

Maximum Programme Completion Time

To be awarded the qualification, the programme must be completed in no more than 3 years of first enrolment, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
