In this online course ākonga are introduced to curriculum and assessment language and approaches in Aotearoa focusing on New Zealand Curriculum Levels 5-8 and NCEA. They explore common elements of the New Zealand Curriculum (the front end) and the synergies and differences between curriculum areas.

Ākonga examine the documents in depth in relation to their own subject specialisation/s. They also engage with a range of strategies to enhance engagement and achievement in a secondary context.

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Analyse the intent of the New Zealand Curriculum and the National Certificate of Educational Achievement and critically evaluate how these are being enacted in schools within specialist areas.
- Apply a range of assessment principles, theories and models in specific curriculum areas
- Apply specific strategies that enhance the engagement and achievement of Māori and Pacific tamariki/rangatahi
