Learners analyse societal factors that shape people and communities in Aotearoa’s culturally diverse and also increasingly connected world. They practise planning and organising for learning including
- weaving cross-curricular links
- literacy and numeracy across the curriculum
- information and communication technologies (ICTs) in learning and teaching
Ākonga examine pedagogical theory and practices in learning and teaching the Social Sciences with a specific focus on Aotearoa New Zealand’s geopolitical context.
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Develop a Social Science lesson with a cross-curricular approach.
- Critique the Social Sciences curriculum and its impact on own learning and teaching.
- Develop an inquiry-based unit of work based on local knowledges, histories or stories, including Māori and/or Pacific.
Assessment
100% internal assessment and includes a practicum.
