Practicum 2: Speaking, Writing and Presenting

This professional experience placement further develops ākonga knowledge, skills, and dispositions to work in primary learning in Aotearoa New Zealand and their progression towards meeting Our Code Our Standards in a supported environment.

A strong emphasis in this placement is the effective use of assessment data for planning next steps in learning and managing challenging behaviour. 

Ākonga will become familiar with the writing, presenting and speaking strand of the New Zealand Curriculum. Linking to the focus on assessment, ākonga become familiar with the Learning Progression Frameworks – Writing, and the Literacy Learning Progressions – Writing.

Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:

  • Implement strategies that guide positive engagement of tamariki in their learning.
  • Use assessment data to plan next steps in learning.
  • Apply current theoretical models and approaches to enhance the speaking, writing and presenting of tamariki.
  • Analyse their strengths and gaps in their ability to undertake the Key Teaching Tasks with reference to best practice in key documents such as Tapasā and Tātaiako and Success for All.

Assessment

100% internal assessment and includes a practicum.
