Ākonga become familiar with the three strands, Technological Practice, Technological Knowledge and the Nature of Technology, which are embedded in the five technological areas and how the design process can be introduced to tamariki. They consider how this curriculum area particularly addresses the key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum. A focus of this course is the new positioning of digital technologies in the New Zealand Curriculum ensuring all tamariki have the opportunity to become digitally capable.
Learners who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Discuss how the achievement objectives and progress outcomes in Technology in the New Zealand Curriculum, encompassed in the five Technological areas, link to the key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum.
- Develop a sequence of lessons using the design for learning process outlined in the Technology curriculum.
- Develop a unit of work that supports tamariki to create digital technologies for specific purposes.
