Professional competencies and relevant legislation that influences assessment and therapy in Aotearoa New Zealand is also covered. The online course is underpinned by a focus on the importance of person centred therapeutic relationships and will help you develop skills in active listening and empathic responses to advocate for appropriate interventions. Additionally, you will be introduced to the importance of self-care, professional supervision and relevant professional codes of ethics that shape current professional practice.

Students who successfully complete this online course will be able to

  • Analyse the importance of person-centered therapeutic relationships.
  • Outline and compare appropriate mental health and wellbeing assessments.
  • Select and justify appropriate person-centered therapeutic interventions.
  • Apply appropriate person-centered therapeutic skills.
  • Describe legislation and how it is applied in mental health and wellbeing practice, and the importance of professional codes of ethics and self-care.
