The concepts of social justice and advocacy are investigated in relation to the rights of the child as articulated in United Nations Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNCROC). You will develop a pedagogical stance in relation to current trends and contemporary issues facing early childhood teachers in the 21st Century.

Students who successfully complete this course will be able to

  • Critically analyse international trends and events that continue to shape the direction of the early childhood sector in Aotearoa New Zealand 
  • Discuss in depth the concept of globalisation and impacts on early childhood education, children, families, and societies with reference to UNRIP (United Nations Rights of Indigenous Peoples)
  • Investigate the concepts of social justice and advocacy in relation to early childhood education
  • Debate the rights of the child with reference to UNCROC (United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child)
  • Develop and critically evaluate a personal and pedagogical stance in relation to a range of socio-political issues affecting early childhood teachers in the 21st Century.
