Social Informatics is the interdisciplinary study of the design, uses and consequences of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and their interaction with institutional and cultural contexts.
Topics covered include History of ICTs, ICT in the 21st century, ICT and Communities and Workplaces.
To study this course, you need to have 40 credits at Level 6, or comparable industry experience. The course leader will determine this.
Students who successfully complete this online course will be able to
- critically reflect on their own uses of information and communication technologies with reference to the significance of cultural and social contexts and technical innovations over time;
- analyse and critique the social and cultural impact of the use of information and communication technology on contemporary events
- evaluate the impact of information and communication technologies on community, workplace and personal life, locally and globally
