Accessing your learner email and free online Microsoft software

This page includes information about how to access your @myop.ac.nz learner email and Microsoft Office software, and upload documents to your learner OneDrive.

While you are studying with us you have free access to online Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.* You also have a OneDrive with 10 gigabytes of storage to use for your study.  Learners in most of our programmes will also have access to downloadable versions.

How to  get to your online Microsoft 365 account

  1. Log in to the MyOP learner portal 
  2. Click on the link to Microsoft 365 in the Quick Links box.
  3. This will take you to your Microsoft 365 homepage. The apps listed above will show in the icons list on the left, or click the waffle icon on the top left of the page if any aren't showing. 

 

Note – If you are already logged into Microsoft with another account you need to sign out and switch to your @myop.ac.nz account.

To sign out, click your the icon on the top right of the page with your initials, and select 'Sign out'.

Or you could use a different browser to log into your @myop account, which may be easier than switching between accounts.

 

How to find your Open Polytechnic @myop.ac.nz email

For your learner email click ‘Outlook’ from the apps list in Microsoft 365.  

This is where we will send emails about assessment results. If you do not want these emails sent there you can:

  • Change the iQualify settings to get text notifications – To do this go to iQualify and click your name or icon on the top right to find your Account. 
  • Foward emails from your learner account to another email – Forward email from Microsoft 365 to another email account (opens in a new tab).

How to download the free Microsoft 365 apps to your device 

After you log into Microsoft 365:

  1. Click the ‘Install Office’ tab in the right corner (see below) and choose ‘Microsoft 365 apps' to begin the download. 
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install. Depending on your device, you may need to individually install each app. 
  3. When the installation is finished open the application. 
  4. Enter your @myop.ac.nz email address and Open Polytechnic password.
  5. Follow any remaining on-screen instructions. 

Due to the size of the download, it can take time to install.

If you need a downloadable desktop version of Microsoft Office for your course, and you are unable to download the software to your computer, please contact us.

 

Uploading documents to your learner online OneDrive

  1. Sign into your learner Office.com account
  2. Click the ‘Waffle’ on the top left.



  3. Select OneDrive from the list of apps.



  4. To upload a file click ‘Add new’ on the left.



  5. Next you can choose to upload an individual file or a folder with files in it. This is also where you go if you want to create new documents in your OneDrive.



  6. Next select the file or folder you want to upload to your OneDrive and click ‘Open’. The file will then show in your learner OneDrive.



Terms and conditions for learner access to Microsoft Office software

  • As part of the learner package, you will have a free Microsoft Office license during your studies. This includes an online license, and for most of our programmes, a downloadable desktop license.
  • If you use the desktop Microsoft Office license you will have access for up to four months after you complete the last course you study with us. After that date, the license will be changed to an online only version for up to 24 months.
  • You will have access to the online Microsoft Office license for up to 24 months after you complete the last course you study with us. After that date, the license will be removed, and all files uploaded into OneDrive and the Outlook mailbox will be removed and the files will be deleted.
