Meet some of our learners

Hear stories from some of the learners our Disability and Access Services team have supported with their study. Each learner has travelled a very different and inspirational path to achieve their study goals, and offers advice for other learners.

Meet Tracey

Tracey is a mature student studying a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Psychology who has ADHD.

Watch Tracey’s videos to hear her story of being diagnosed as an adult, and the strategies that she finds help with her studies.

You can also listen to her advice around backing yourself, and remembering that you bring valuable experience and knowledge when you come to study as a neurodivergent person.

Meet Nevé

Neve is a learner who identifies as being visually impaired and studied a Bachelor in Business majoring in Human Resource Management.

Nevé had previously found studying on a campus to be tricky with her disability, but says online learning worked well for her. She found the support at Open Polytechnic helpful, including with adjusting content for her needs.

Nevé has also been a fundamental part in the development of a Disability Advisory Group to help provide a voice for disabled learners. Nevé has some great tips on achieving success with your study.

Meet Hannah

Hannah is studying a Bachelor of Social Health and Wellbeing, majoring in Disability, who identifies as having a disability herself since getting post concussion syndrome, occipital neuralgia and depression after an injury while enjoying her passion – kick boxing.

Hear Hannah’s story of finding strength in her vulnerability and openness, and how studying online has helped her to invest in her wellbeing.

Meet Rachel

Rachel is a deaf person who completed a Bachelor of Social work with us in 2021. She is now studying her Masters at Massey.

Watch Rachel’s video to learn about the struggles she found with face to face learning, and how supportive and helpful she found studying online to be.

She has some great advice around how to best approach your study.
