Online Examination for July 2025 offering of LES603 and LES604 (October 2025 exams)
Open Polytechnic plan for the July 2025 offering (starting Monday 7 July) of LES603 Business Law and Practice and LES604 Property Law and Practice to have their final October 2025 exams conducted online. This page provides advance information about the requirements and expectations for these two online exams to help you prepare. More detailed information will be shared ahead of the July offering.
Key information for the online exam
In October of 2025 we plan to deliver the two exams using Inspera Live Proctoring with Secure Browser. This means you will need to download and use software that will enable a controlled assessment, including controlling what you can engage with on your device during the exam (much like the exam hall experience, but in your chosen location.) The below provides information on the minimum requirements necessary to participate in an online exam (see the Inspera full requirements here).
- Device requirements – To ensure a smooth online exam experience you need access to a reliable Windows or MacOS laptop or desktop computer with:
- Operating system: Windows 11** and above, or MacOS 10.11 and above.
- A browser with an up-to-date (latest version) of Google Chrome (recommended), or Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox, or Apple Safari.
- A webcam and microphone. This is needed for identity verification and monitoring during the exam
- A second device with a camera, such as a mobile phone. This is to monitor your exam environment. It will need a QR Reader app and the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox browsers. Support will be given on how to set this up ahead of the exam taking place.
- Device administrator rights – to allow the exam software to be installed. If you do not have administrator rights for your device, please talk to the owner of the device to discuss the requirements for you to participate in an online exam.
- Internet connection – An internet connection which is minimum 5mbps is required, with 10mbps recommended. You can check your internet speed here using fast.com (external site will open). A wired connection is recommended, but a strong wi-fi connection will also work if it's reliable. Using mobile cards, dongles or personal hotspots may not guarantee a constant bandwidth, so are not recommended for the purposes for an online exam.
- Exam environment – Please ensure that you have a quiet, distraction-free place to do the exam, where you can focus without interruptions. You will be required to complete a room scan using your primary device webcam to verify your exam environment before starting.
- Photo ID – You will need to show a government-issued photo ID to verify your identity before starting the exam. For example, a passport, driver's license, firearms license or Kiwi access card (renamed from 18+ card).
** Support for Windows 10 will officially end on 14 October 2025. While the online exam may work on Windows 10, please note that this is not supported, and any issues encountered may not be resolved.
To ensure a fully supported experience during the exam, we recommend upgrading to Windows 11. You can continue studying on Windows 10, but we advise checking now whether your device is eligible for the upgrade.
Upgrading to Windows 11 is your responsibility, so be sure to back up your files and verify system requirements before proceeding. For more information and to check your upgrade eligibility, visit Microsoft's official site using the links below:
- Microsoft Windows 11
- How do I know if my current Windows 10 PC meets the hardware requirements for Windows 11?
- How much does it cost to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11?
- How long will the free upgrade offer last?
We recommend that you review the above device requirements and ensure your technology is ready ahead of time to avoid any issues on the day of the exam.
What’s next:
More information will be available in 2025, prior to the course’s start, including how to install and login into the software, and how to navigate through the platform, along with a short (unassessed) mock exam session that you will be required to complete to ensure your readiness to participate in the online exam.
