Open Polytechnic employs a wide range of learning and teaching experts who provide academic and learning support to our distance learners.

We also use contractors, mostly off campus, who are subject matter experts in their fields who provide academic support and marking services. 

As a specialist provider of open flexible distance learning, we also employ highly skilled courseware design and development, and education technology professionals, administration and customer support staff, as well as library and learning centre staff who are all focused on helping Open Polytechnic learners achieve their educational goals.

      Role at Open Polytechnic

      I am the Academic Staff Member for all engineering trade courses contracted to the ITO Competenz

      I have been working in the Open Polytechnic since 2014. I bring experience gained from within Industry to this role, including Industry Training Organisation apprentice management, employing and coaching apprentices to building and maintaining relationships with employers and secondment company owners. My role at Open Polytechnic is comprehensive but primarily it is to tutor engineering trade learners to achieve completion of their Level 4 Mechanical and Fabrication qualifications and to support by working together with their ITO training managers.

      Education

      Advanced Trade Certificate – Sheet Metal Engineering; a Trade Certificate – Sheet Metal Engineering; and Workplace assessor and moderator  National Certificate Adult Education L4

      Experience

      I worked in industry as fabrication engineer and mechanical engineer for many years, then as account manager for an industry training organization.

      I am an Academic Staff Member in Trades. My role is to support and work with you to facilitate your learning and understanding for the Electrical Trades prgramme.

      Work experience

      I am a qualified electrician and have 40 years in the electrical industry. 

      I have worked as an electrical assessor and moderator and previously worked for Skills Org as an account manager and a manager for a Managed Apprenticeship company.

      Role at the Open Polytechnic

      I am an Academic Staff Member for electrical trades courses mainly offered to Industry Training Organisation trade apprentices from Level 2 to Level 4. 

      Experience

      I have a trade qualification in Electrical/Fitting and have Advanced Trade Electrical A,B,C,D and I am currently studying for the National Certificate in Adult Education.

      I served an electrical apprenticeship in heavy industry and proceeded on to High Voltage Substation work. Then changed to domestic and commercial electrical and finishing up in building controls. I am also a registered Electrical Inspector.
